Written from an Indigenous perspective, Who Am I tells the story of a little brown-skinned girl who asks her mother, “Who am I?” Her mother responds with powerful imagery: “You are the fire that burns and the eagle that soars. You are the oak tree that stands and the river that bends.” Through these words, she teaches her daughter that she is deeply connected to all of Mother Earth, the plants, animals, and all living things. By the end of the story, the girl realizes that she is not so little after all, but part of something vast and meaningful.
